The question, for him, was what he wanted her for now. He told himself it was to forget, but, if anything, she just reminded him of all the things he wanted to forget. She was tied up in them, caught in the center, the crux. If he wanted to forget, he'd go traveling. Get out of America. Find somewhere far away to settle, preferably with a pretty boy who looked nothing like...anyone he knew.

But, instead, he followed her past the bouncer, reaching to tug his dinner in after him as they entered. He scanned the room, the dark not really a problem for him, gaze sharp and alert, but given he had dinner by the arm, it was mostly curious.
