I've got some good friends here / I might've broke a heart or two [For <user site="livejournal.com"

"I'm not like you."

Damon had spat the words at Matt, rejecting his words, his offer, and they echoed in his head now and again. But when he walked away, there had been only one place he felt he could go: home. Part of him was certain he should have gone elsewhere, somewhere he could disappear.

The other part of him half-wanted to be found, wanted to see if they would come after him, come to find him.

Florence had always been home, a place where he could settle into like a second skin. Funny now, how badly he'd wanted to get out of it when he'd been human. Now, it was a beacon, always.

He'd settled back into the exclusive house on Via Tornabuoni, its polished wood and marble frescoes and inlaid floors soothing something inside of him. Tonight, though, he'd left it for the clubs he knew a lot of students frequented. They always made such easy hunting, the girls all but begging to be embraced by darkness. It was almost too easy.

He had a drink in his hand, sitting on a couch in the VIP section. Several girls were vying for his attention, but he was only half paying attention, his thoughts half a world away.

He gave her an arch glance. "Are you going to come back in the middle of some night and put a stake through my heart?"

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-09 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"A stake really isn't my style." She replied with a bit of a smirk.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Damon led her out of the club into the warm night air. "No? What would you say your style is?"

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess you'll have to wait and see, won't you?" Rebekah chuckled softly.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess I will." Probably taking her back to his place wasn't smart, but whatever. Damon had been in a reckless mood since he rushed Klaus in that clearing.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
But his reckless mood was working out well for her at the moment. Enjoying the night air as it swirled around them, she glanced quietly towards the sky, noticing the lingering clouds that threatened to block out the moon. Cloudy days suited her fine but not cloudy nights.

Suddenly there was a faint gust of air as the clouds started thinning out.

Damon felt the stirring of Power and chuckled a little, glancing up at the clearing sky. He preferred the stars and moon to clouds, as well, though he was quick to bring them during the day, if he bothered to get up. With not needing to blend in, or stalk Elena, it worked well enough for him to sleep most of the day in natural rhythms.

"We could see the stars better out of the city."

"True but the hunting is horrible. Unless you like to snack on animals." Her nose wrinkled in distaste as she just couldn't understand the vampires who chose to live that way.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Damon's face mirrored hers. "Not unless there's absolutely no other alternative." He never would understand Stefan's desire to do so.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Even then." She shook her head, knowing she would feed on an animal if she absolutely needed to but she didn't think she would ever catch herself in that position.

"Where do you live?"

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Damon hadn't really found himself in that position very often, truly. Once or twice, but not that often.

He smiled a bit at her question, "Via Tornabuoni." It was one of the most exclusive areas of the city, and he'd owned the place for centuries.

"Ooh, very nice." Rebekah seemed impressed as she smirked at him but, truthfully, she had a home there as well and now she was curious as to how close it was to his. Of course, after living for as long as she had, she had quite a few homes all over the world. Some she shared with family and some she did not.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've had it a while," Damon said with a shrug and a wry smile. "There's a palazzo on the outskirts of town that is technically mine, but it's a pain to try and keep it staffed and there are..too many memories in some ways."

He'd died there. So had Stefan. It was their childhood home, and some rat of a cousin had inherited it, but Damon had acquired it a century or so later in a fit of ... something.

He'd never lived there since.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" She studied him before nodding her head. "I have a villa west of here but I haven't been there for a couple years."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Damon's smile was brief, a flash in the night, but he saw no reason not to share. "My family's home. For generations before I was born, even. I acquired it when the human line died out, but...I don't really stay there."

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebekah made a soft noise of understanding as she nodded her head. "The homes we had before we were changed can be rather difficult to go back to sometimes."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Where was yours?" he asked, mostly idly. If she wanted to keep that secret, he wouldn't press her, but he was curious.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, a ways north of here." She replied vaguely with a little shrug, glancing sideways with a small smile. "It's not there anymore."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He arched an eyebrow at that, mind assessing. There were a lot of places that weren't there anymore, if you went back far enough. Surely people must, though a little shiver went up his spine. Still he smiled back. "Then not so many ghosts for you to face on that score." Not that there weren't plenty of others that could accumulate in a long lifetime.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebekah made a non-committal al noise on the comment about ghosts because she wasn't so sure she agreed but that was most likely because she had more than enough of them these days.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Damon let silence fall as they walked, until they reached the outside of the building that housed his home. "This is it. I have the second floor..." He led the way to the door at the base of the stairs, holding it open for her.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebekah looked up at the building before nodding, moving to follow him though she flashed a small smile as he held the door open for her. "Thank you."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Being a gentleman was something he did manage, and he smiled back, shutting the door once they were through and leading her up the marble and wooden stairs. "This was a palazzo of its one, once upon a time, but with the population and money increase, they broke it up."

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She could tell him that she remembered something about that but she merely nodded, taking a look around as they walked up the stairs. "I've always loved these old buildings."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He wouldn't have been surprised--she was hiding too well to not have some age or Power or both on him, but he just smiled. "So have I. It's one of the things I detest about California...no depth of history preserved."

And perpetual sunlight.
