"I'm not like you."

Damon had spat the words at Matt, rejecting his words, his offer, and they echoed in his head now and again. But when he walked away, there had been only one place he felt he could go: home. Part of him was certain he should have gone elsewhere, somewhere he could disappear.

The other part of him half-wanted to be found, wanted to see if they would come after him, come to find him.

Florence had always been home, a place where he could settle into like a second skin. Funny now, how badly he'd wanted to get out of it when he'd been human. Now, it was a beacon, always.

He'd settled back into the exclusive house on Via Tornabuoni, its polished wood and marble frescoes and inlaid floors soothing something inside of him. Tonight, though, he'd left it for the clubs he knew a lot of students frequented. They always made such easy hunting, the girls all but begging to be embraced by darkness. It was almost too easy.

He had a drink in his hand, sitting on a couch in the VIP section. Several girls were vying for his attention, but he was only half paying attention, his thoughts half a world away.

Damon's smile was brief, a flash in the night, but he saw no reason not to share. "My family's home. For generations before I was born, even. I acquired it when the human line died out, but...I don't really stay there."

Rebekah made a soft noise of understanding as she nodded her head. "The homes we had before we were changed can be rather difficult to go back to sometimes."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Where was yours?" he asked, mostly idly. If she wanted to keep that secret, he wouldn't press her, but he was curious.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, a ways north of here." She replied vaguely with a little shrug, glancing sideways with a small smile. "It's not there anymore."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He arched an eyebrow at that, mind assessing. There were a lot of places that weren't there anymore, if you went back far enough. Surely people must, though a little shiver went up his spine. Still he smiled back. "Then not so many ghosts for you to face on that score." Not that there weren't plenty of others that could accumulate in a long lifetime.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebekah made a non-committal al noise on the comment about ghosts because she wasn't so sure she agreed but that was most likely because she had more than enough of them these days.

Damon let silence fall as they walked, until they reached the outside of the building that housed his home. "This is it. I have the second floor..." He led the way to the door at the base of the stairs, holding it open for her.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebekah looked up at the building before nodding, moving to follow him though she flashed a small smile as he held the door open for her. "Thank you."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Being a gentleman was something he did manage, and he smiled back, shutting the door once they were through and leading her up the marble and wooden stairs. "This was a palazzo of its one, once upon a time, but with the population and money increase, they broke it up."

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She could tell him that she remembered something about that but she merely nodded, taking a look around as they walked up the stairs. "I've always loved these old buildings."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-10 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He wouldn't have been surprised--she was hiding too well to not have some age or Power or both on him, but he just smiled. "So have I. It's one of the things I detest about California...no depth of history preserved."

And perpetual sunlight.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-11 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes." She nodded her head. "I mean, I don't mind some new buildings but all that glass and metal is kind of boring." She could tell he was trying to guess her age at times. Probably trying to figure out which one of them was more Powerful.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-12 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "I'm going to admit to a preference for marble, but I suppose that's by virtue of being Italian," he said with a teasing little smile as he led her upstairs.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave a low laugh as she nodded her head. "Well, I suppose I don't blame you. Marble is rather stunning as are most Italians." She smirked.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He smirked a tiny bit back in response, gaze sweeping down for a moment. "I'm glad we agree. Though I'll admit to a passing fondness for northerners..." She had Katherine's coloring, Elena's too. Even her eyes were right. Not that she reminded him of either of them, really, but he seemed to have a type.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh really?" She asked with a soft chuckle. "Have a lot of experience with northerners, do we?"

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-16 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He opened the door to his flat, stepping back to gesture her in. "Let's just say it wasn't an Italian beauty who turned me."

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course not." She chuckled, moving into his home as she looked around. "Let me guess? Some sweet mysterious lady? Damsel in distress?" She asked as she continued forward a few more steps before glancing back with a knowing look. "It's a type for men these days. Always has been."

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Damon shrugged a little, looking amused. "Both sweet and a bit of a damsel, back in the day," he agreed. "I was very young, and the world was very different."

Translation--he found damsels in distress rather boring now.

Except certain redheaded witches who got herself into more trouble than any one person should.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank God." Rebekah turned to face him again with a chuckle. "It gets very annoying when someone can't look after herself and everyone is always having to save her." She wrinkled her nose slightly.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Damon nodded. "Certainly not someone one wants to think about spending extensive time with."

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly, it just gets tiring after awhile." She agreed with a chuckle.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I much prefer a challenge rather than a clinging vine, now that I've...grown up a bit."

He could admit he was far more mature than he'd been, then, which was probably a good thing considering how many centuries it had been.

[identity profile] itconsumesher.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, then you're one of the few smart ones, aren't you?" She stood where she was, smirking at him as her eyes drifted over him from head to toe.

[identity profile] prodigalsavior.livejournal.com 2012-06-17 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Damon tilted his head, meeting her gaze and letting her look her fill.

"Can I get you something to drink? Give you a tour?"
