"I'm not like you."

Damon had spat the words at Matt, rejecting his words, his offer, and they echoed in his head now and again. But when he walked away, there had been only one place he felt he could go: home. Part of him was certain he should have gone elsewhere, somewhere he could disappear.

The other part of him half-wanted to be found, wanted to see if they would come after him, come to find him.

Florence had always been home, a place where he could settle into like a second skin. Funny now, how badly he'd wanted to get out of it when he'd been human. Now, it was a beacon, always.

He'd settled back into the exclusive house on Via Tornabuoni, its polished wood and marble frescoes and inlaid floors soothing something inside of him. Tonight, though, he'd left it for the clubs he knew a lot of students frequented. They always made such easy hunting, the girls all but begging to be embraced by darkness. It was almost too easy.

He had a drink in his hand, sitting on a couch in the VIP section. Several girls were vying for his attention, but he was only half paying attention, his thoughts half a world away.

"Thank God." Rebekah turned to face him again with a chuckle. "It gets very annoying when someone can't look after herself and everyone is always having to save her." She wrinkled her nose slightly.

Damon nodded. "Certainly not someone one wants to think about spending extensive time with."

"Exactly, it just gets tiring after awhile." She agreed with a chuckle.

"I much prefer a challenge rather than a clinging vine, now that I've...grown up a bit."

He could admit he was far more mature than he'd been, then, which was probably a good thing considering how many centuries it had been.

"Well, then you're one of the few smart ones, aren't you?" She stood where she was, smirking at him as her eyes drifted over him from head to toe.

Damon tilted his head, meeting her gaze and letting her look her fill.

"Can I get you something to drink? Give you a tour?"

"Please." She nodded once she was done looking her fill. "Something strong."

"Make yourself comfortable," he said, waving toward the sofa, as he moved over to the decanters he kept to the side. He poured them both a nice glass of whiskey, moving back toward her with them.

Rebekah moved quietly to the sofa, sitting down to make herself comfortable before she reached for her drink when he brought it to her. "Thank you."

Damon smiled at her before settling on the sofa, close but not fully invading her space. Not yet. "You're welcome."

"So, where do you spend your time when you're not home?" She asked, taking a sip of her whiskey.

"Here in Florence?" he asked, though he didn't wait for the answer. "I like several of the clubs. The museums." Even though he'd seen everything in them multiple times. "I know a few people who keep good social events going."

"And when you're away from Florence." She nodded before falling silent as she listened to him. "Really? Good soecial events are always fun." She nodded her head, taking a sip of her drink. Truthfully, it took a lot to keep her interest these days but she was always curious about what other vampires found interesting.

"Usually bigger cities," he admitted with a shrug. "I like London, but strangely enough, prefer Dublin. Paris. In the States, I tend to stick to New York or Seattle." It rained in Seattle enough to make him deeply happy with the weather.
