Love is a Four Letter Word (For itconsumesher)

Every now and then, the constriction of the village tightened around him until he wanted to throw something through a wall. It wasn't often--for the most part he'd learned to be content in his three years here--but when it happened, it was like a restless burning he couldn't shake.

He was a vampire, a predator. Once upon a time, he'd been death lurking in the shadows. He took what he wanted. He didn't ask for permission.

And now...well, on several levels, yes, he had everything he wanted. People weren't happy about it, but so far no matter how badly he acted, no matter how far he pushed against the boundaries, no one snapped back. He didn't know what to make of that. Shouldn't they be snapping back? Shouldn't someone be drawing lines?

Granted, he was all ready to rip through the lines already drawn, as well as someone's throat. He remembered the last real taste of fear he'd had, the night he and Rebekah had hunted those girls through the club, and he shivered just a bit. Biting his lower lip, he sent her a message.

My room. Now. I have a plan.

"Good, because I am rather selfish and I wouldn't have been able to stay silent for long." She smirked, teasing lightly before she leaned in to kiss him. It would make the loss of him that much worse when it came, as painful as losing her mother or someone else she loved, but it was better that he knew.

Damon's hands slid to cradle her jaw, and kissed her softly, then more deeply. He didn't want to think about losing her, about not having a chance to be with her for always. Sliding his hand to her waist, pulling her closer to him.

If she could, if there was a way, she would stay with him forever but there wasn't as far as she knew. So right now she threw herself into it, as it was her nature to do so, but somehow it felt like it meant more with him. More than even her love for Stefan at one point in her life.

Melting against him, she kissed him back, clinging gently as the kiss deepened further. All the rage and need to hurt felt like it was melting away suddenly as he continued to hold her.

He didn't particularly trust Cedric's little stories, so Damon wasn't inclined to float false hope. Besides...even if they could leave this place for a world not theirs...where would they go? And she had her family, and Elijah was devoted to Klaus in some way Damon hadn't fully fathomed. It was like him and Stefan, in some ways, but not, and...he pushed all those thoughts away, and held her tighter.

He didn't want to think, just wanted to hold her, to get the chance to love her for as long as he could.

She wasn't sure he would choose to come to her world if they had the choice, not if it meant leaving Elena and Stefan. There were so many things to be concerned about but she pushed them away in favor of this moment because she didn't want it ruined. She didn't want the shadows or the possibility of being separated to hurt him.

She just wanted to love him and leave it at that. So she slid her fingers into his hair, trying to pour every emotion that she felt into the kiss so he couldn't question just what it was that she felt for him. Just how much she needed him more than she had ever needed anything before. Only him and Elijah...

It almost hurt, all that emotion, feeling it and her and tasting what life could be like--no restrictions, no rules. They could own the night, command the shadows. Nothing could stand against or between them, given the chance--of that he was certain. It was so close to every dream he'd ever had that his fingers pulled even more tightly at her, as if he could make it real just by wanting.

But Rebekah knew that sometimes wanting wasn't enough. She had spent her entire lifetime wanting so much but she had never gotten it. Whether it was her own choice to throw something away or whether it had been stolen from her, she had never gotten what she wanted until she had a taste of it now. And now there would always be the threat of it, of him, being taken away from he too. If not by the village then by other forces inside the village.

She was unaware of the tears until she broke the kiss with a gasp, the emotion clogging her throat as she closed her eyes tightly and then dropped her face to his shoulder.

Damon wasn't certain exactly what prompted the tears, but his arms tightened their hold on her just that much more. One hand lifted to soothe through her hair, light, easy, trying to calm her down, to be there.

"Shhh...." he murmured into her hair. "It's all right, love. I'm right here..." For as long as fate would let him be.

She wasn't outright crying or sobbing, they were more silent tears as she leaned her head against his shoulder, allowing him to try and soothe her as she closed her eyes.

"I don't want to lose you." She murmured weakly.

Damon brushed a kiss against her temple, still holding her close.

"I don't want to lose you, either," he murmured back. "I feel like...I've been looking for you all my life."

"I know." She murmured, meaning that she felt much the same way he did. "You're exactly who I would choose."

Those were words he'd never really thought to hear, and they sent a shiver over him, even as he pressed another kiss to her temple.

"Am I?"

She nodded ever so slightly, her fingers sweeping over the small of his back. "Yes. You and I are a lot alike." She murmured. Truthfully, she had a long list of reasons as to why she would choose him.

He nodded a little. "We really are," he agreed. His fingers swept up to cradle her cheek, fingers lightly teasing in her hair.

Lifting her head, she tilted it back to look up at him as his fingers teased through her hair, causing her to shiver a little again. Her eyes trailed over his features before she leaned up to kiss him again, not wanting to let go even long enough to walk back to the hotel.

Damon watched her back for a moment, then kissed her again, fingers trailing up to bury more thoroughly in her hair, holding her close against him.

Breaking away from the kiss, she offered a little smile. "Race you back to the hotel?"

Damon laughed slightly, but nodded. "Sounds fun."

Rebekah smirked without responding and disappeared before he could do much else. She only stopped when she got to the hotel, pausing outside the door as she twisted back to look for him.

He pushed himself to follow her, but she had a head start and was twice his age. Still, he wasn't just a second or two behind her, shaking his head as he came to a stop.

Rebekah smirked a little as he stopped in front of her. "What?"

"I think you cheated," he said, leaning in to steal a kiss.

"Do you think I'd do something like that?" She tilted her head slightly, kissing him back as she slid her fingers into his hair again.

"Mmhmm....oh, absolutely," he murmured against her lips. "What was it you wanted to do here...?"

Suddenly she smirked a little more, pulling back. "We need to go to your room."
