Love is a Four Letter Word (For itconsumesher)

Every now and then, the constriction of the village tightened around him until he wanted to throw something through a wall. It wasn't often--for the most part he'd learned to be content in his three years here--but when it happened, it was like a restless burning he couldn't shake.

He was a vampire, a predator. Once upon a time, he'd been death lurking in the shadows. He took what he wanted. He didn't ask for permission.

And now...well, on several levels, yes, he had everything he wanted. People weren't happy about it, but so far no matter how badly he acted, no matter how far he pushed against the boundaries, no one snapped back. He didn't know what to make of that. Shouldn't they be snapping back? Shouldn't someone be drawing lines?

Granted, he was all ready to rip through the lines already drawn, as well as someone's throat. He remembered the last real taste of fear he'd had, the night he and Rebekah had hunted those girls through the club, and he shivered just a bit. Biting his lower lip, he sent her a message.

My room. Now. I have a plan.

Damon blinked at that, but couldn't quite help the small little thrill her words sent through him. He smirked and took off after her, fast on her heels, pausing when he caught up to her.

"I think your girl went that way." She could hear the little whimpering gasps as the girl ran and it was annoying. Oh, she really was in a mood.

"Should we herd them back together or meet up in a bit?"

"Let's see if we can herd them back together." He liked watching her hunt, the vicious perfection of it.

Rebekah's eyes flashed in the darkness as she offered a cruel little smirk before disappearing again. It was all too easy to track her guy down and to turn him back towards Damon's girl. Every time he got off track, Rebekah cut him off, appearing right in front of him with a little hiss. At one point she even sent him flying though she was careful to him him in a way that wouldn't leave a bad mark.

Finally she could see Damon and his girl again, watching as the guy raced towards her.

Damon closed in on the girl fast enough, but stayed back so that she heard him coming, but when she looked back there were only shadows. At one point, he shifted into his crow form, so that she was being chased by a big black bird. A moment later, there was a wolf at her heels.

She was sobbing by the time she saw the guy, bloody knees and hands where she'd stumbled a few times.

The guy who had abandoned her moments before rushed to help her now, reaching to pull her to her feet as he urged her to run again, desperate to get them both out of there and somewhere safe. But as soon as he turned to run, Rebekah was there again, catching him by the throat and pushing to slam him back against a tree. She minded her strength as she did it, not wanting to actually hurt or kill him.

Releasing him, she flashed her fangs before darting in to bite him. The fear definitely brought a sweet little tang to his blood and she moaned softly as she drank, feeling him struggle at first though it didn't last long.

Damon shifted from wolf to man again in one smooth movement, catching the girl as Rebekah grabbed the boy, and pulling her back against him, hard and tight, her struggles little more than the beating of a moth's wings. She whimpered, wanting to get away, but he had her too tight, and no intention of letting her go. Ducking his head, he bit into her more viciously than he was normally wont to do and she cried out, almost a scream, before finally giving up and whimpering in both fear and pleasure mingled.

Pulling back when she felt the guy's pulse getting weak, she released him with a little gasp, watching dispassionately as he crumpled to the ground with a little groan. She studied him for a second before biting her wrist, crouching down beside him as she grabbed the back of his head to guide his mouth to the blood. He latched on willingly, drinking enough to heal any wounds that had been left on him.

When she figured he had had enough, she let go and took a step back.

Damon didn't want to stop. He wanted to drain the girl and leave her to rot, just....because he could. But he couldn't, and the frustration of that left him near hurting her before he pulled back and let her fall. For a moment he just watched her there, something dispassionate and cold in his eyes before sense hit and he sighed, biting his wrist and giving her some blood.

She'd still be woozy, sore, but there was no obvious sign of attack.

It took very little to make them forget the bad things and it left Rebekah feeling more than a little frustrated as well. Maybe that's why she didn't bother with making sure they made their way back to the village. She figured they would manage just fine.

So she walked past Damon, barely glancing to see if he would follow since she figured he might.

Damon tilted his head slightly at the silent retreat, but he followed without a word.

They made it a ways before she looked back at him, huffing a little. "That did not help me to feel better."

Damon made a bit of a face. "Me either..."

"I wanted to snap her neck." She muttered moodily, pausing to face him as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Why?" he asked, with a tilt of his head, not admitting to having wanted to break the guy's hands for touching her.

"I don't know." It was a bit of a lie as she frowned, looking past him. "She was only food."

Damon reached toward her, tucking her hair back behind her ear. "Yes, she was. I didn't even get her name."

The slightest touch seemed to loosen something in her as her shoulders relaxed and she stepped closer to him. "I know." She murmured, leaning into him. "I'm in such a weird mood." She frowned.

He wrapped his arms loosely around her, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "This place can do that sometimes."

"Maybe it's because I wanted to kill her." She muttered, finally shifting to wrap her arms around him. "I want to be the only one touching you tonight." Well, except for Elijah since she would be fine with him touching Damon too.

Damon ducked his head to kiss her softly. "She's gone. No one else is here but me and you." His smile twitched, wry and dark. "I wanted to kill him, too."

Rebekah couldn't help but look intrigued, and pleased, by the idea. "Why is that?"

Shadows flickered across Damon's face. "He was touching you."

The admission caused her to smirk as she curled her fingers in his shirt, tugging him in for a searing but brief kiss till she leaned back to look at him. "I love you."

The words took him by surprise, a naming for a feeling he hadn't fully wrapped his mind around. Elena had used it as well, for Rebekah and Elijah, assuming he loved them, telling him, really, and surely only for such a thing would he risk Stefan's pain...but it still took him by surprise.

His hand came up to cradle her cheek, and he kissed her again. "I love you, too..." The words were quiet, rough, not ones he was used to admitting, to saying aloud, even now, to anyone.
